While I didn't receive the Yakima Herald-Republic's endorsement, I appreciate their thoughtfulness:

"Yakima County Commission, District 2 In District 2, which includes most of the city of Yakima, Republican incumbent Kyle Curtis is facing Democratic challenger Susan Soto Palmer.

Both are knowledgeable and well-versed in local and regional issues, and both have backgrounds that give them useful experience that could benefit county government.

. . .

He’s shown an impressive capability to understand and engage with a range of people who hold diverse beliefs, interests and goals.

The same can also be said about his opponent.

Soto Palmer — whose experience includes being elected chair of the Yakima County Democratic Party, being a Washington State Democratic Committee Person, serving as a national delegate for her party and being a precinct committee officer— clearly brings valuable skills to the table, too.

Additionally, she’s a seasoned legal assistant and paralegal and has volunteered as a court-appointed advocate for abused and neglected children. Her volunteer work includes providing support services to sexual abuse survivors.

As a strong proponent of affordable housing and social justice, Soto Palmer has shown decisiveness, vision, compassion and a laudable commitment to inclusivity.

We have no doubt that either candidate would be successful. And we believe either would work tirelessly on behalf of Yakima County residents.

. . .

We hope Soto Palmer continues the work she’s already doing, but our endorsement goes to Curtis this time."
